Necessary Endings
If you are like me, you may sometimes find yourself daydreaming and you become excited about the mere thought of your future and its endless possibilities. You envision yourself doing great things and celebrating your accomplishments. However, what we fail to do is give the proper attention to what will need to be released in order for us to receive what God has in store for us...our destiny.
You see, getting to the next level always requires ending something, leaving some people or places behind and moving on. When you know that God is shifting you to the next “big thing” in your life, as hard as it may be, there are some things that have to end. This includes some relationships that must be severed, ineffective practices that have to be relinquished and life stages that need to end to open up space for the next one. Unplugging from some friendships, activities or commitments is not always a bad thing; it often signals the beginning of a new thing.
“See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:19
For us to ever get to a new tomorrow, a new level, the next step or to new God-ordained relationships some people, practices, places and things have to be left behind. It all begins with ‘ letting go.’ When my daughter and son were infants, I enjoyed that stage so much that I often found myself thinking, “ I wish they could stay babies forever.” I would allow myself to stay stagnate in the present of how adorable I thought they were, not allowing myself to see the promise of what they would become. I look at them now and the thriving young adults that they are becoming and I am so proud. I realized that infancy, toddlerhood and childhood had to be forever shunned in order for them to become the adults they are designed to be. I had to let go.
The book of Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is a season for things to begin and a season for things to end; it's essentially the cycle of life and how everything in it works. In order to live and flourish in our next levels, we may have to dismiss some people we've entertained, uproot some things we've nurtured and tear down some things we've built.
If we don't learn how to do necessary endings well, we will stay stuck, miss out on God opportunities and fail to reach our goals and dreams. Proper endings can lead to greater growth and goals being reached; ultimately leading to better lives. Although endings are hard, life requires them. Today, be inspired to do some self-reflection and life evaluation to determine your necessary endings. Be empowered to execute your necessary endings well so you can get the results you desire to live your best life now.
